What Are We Up To Now?

We have moved. All birds, our collection of Alexandrines have been relocated to New South Wales. We have established 2 huge holding cages. Most visitors are stunned to see so many Alexandrines together in all different colours. Our avairies will be open for inspection at Aves 2009.

Background

George Van der Togt has established, through long perserverance, some outstanding colour mutations in the Alexandrine parrot here in Australia. This has been a childhood dream in which he has set himself a goal and stuck with it.

Some advice to others that love birds - don't make a rash decision when looking to purchase a bird, take your time and read up about the birds you like. It took George 15 years before he achieved his favourite bird. He used this time to read, talk to other breeders and he looked at aviary designs. Keep in mind what your goal is, and what you would like to achieve yourself, no matter how big or small your collection might be. Finally establishing a mutation through hybridisation needs to be handled carefully, unwanted progeny must not be allowed to ruin the genuine species.

This is a wonderful hobby and one that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
